Jeon Woo Chi is a classical novel of unknown origin dating to the Joseon era that tells the story of a free-wheeling, mischievous Jeon Woo Chi, who swallowed the gumiho¡¯s fox bead, which gave him powers of Taoist magic. He uses those powers to save the poor, oppressed people and becomes a hero.

Jeon Woo Chi (Cha Tae Hyun) is student of Hong Gil Dong, fights against Ma Sook (Kim Gab Soo) and Kang Rim (Lee Hee Joon) to protect Hong Gil Dong's country Yuldo. Jeon Woo Chi acts like a lazy nobody in everyday life, but whenever he has to fight he transforms into the magician Jeon Woo Chi. He even puts his life on the line when Hong Moo Yeon (Uee), granddaughter of Hong Gil Dong and his fiance, falls under a spell and starts to attack him. Jeon Woo Chi who dreams of revenge after having lost his trusted best friend and lover is not interested in becoming a hero but becomes one as he gets rid of the bad guys.

Cha Tae Hyun plays the Taoist wizard Jeon Woo chi and Uee plays the role of Hong Moo Yeon who is a princess, the granddaughter of Hong Gil Dong, and the love interest of Jeon Woo Chi. Meanwhile,Lee Hee Joon take the role of Kang Rim, who is Woo chi¡¯s nemesis, the dark Taoist wizard and all-around scary mofo.
In the fictional utopian nation of Yuldo, established by the righteous bandit hero Hong Gil-dong, Jeon Woo-chi is a dosa, a Taoist wizard, who gained his powers by swallowing a gumiho fox bead. A friend's betrayal causes him to lose his mentor, and sorcery turns the love of his life Hong Mu-yeon into an emotionless assassin. So in order to avenge them, he travels to Joseon, and is moved by the plight of the people and becomes a reluctant hero to them.
