About Sing a Song of Sex
Small-town high-school pupils go to Tokyo for their university entrance exams. Their collective thoughts stray to fantasies about one of the female students. They express their cynicism towards the ‘idealism’of their parents’ generation by singing bawdy songs. The transgressive power of the songs is deflated when they hear a Korean-Japanese girl singing the lament of a ‘comfort woman’ forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese army. At their final testing session they imagine strangling the rich girl they previously fantasised about.
