About Lee Jung-Seob, a Painter
Lee Jung-Seob is born in Pyeong Won, Pyeong Nam in 1916 as a son of a rich farmer. Since he shows excellent talent in painting, he goes to Japan to study after graduating Oh San School. His artistic genius is acknowledged as he receives 'prize of the sun' when he is a student of Tokyo Imperial University. He marries to Yamamoto and returns to Korea. After liberation, he is troubled under the oppression of the communist party. As Korean War breaks out, he crosses the border to the south with Korean Army. Since then he muddles through the bitters between life and art. When his last is close at hand in 1955, he has symptoms of refusal of speaking and eating due to his skepticism about art and discouragement. And also he shows mental disease. But all of these syndromes are not an artist's eccentric attitudes but an innocent man's gesture who suffers from his age.
