About Elegy of Ren
Self-torture caused by poverty and hand spasm make a painter Simon be unable to draw. With the help of Ren, he is recovered to draw again. When the Korean War occur, Simon is kidnapped by the red communists and forced to draw Stalin's portrait, but Ren help him to escape. But because of Simon's wife's jealousy, they are compelled to part with. Later, during the retreat on Jan. 4 in 1951, Simon encounters Ren with the orphans and follows her. When Ren falls down with cold and starving and dies in the orphans' crying, Simon falls into despair and emptiness. But, in obedience of the will of the deceased, he guides the orphans to the south.
